Holograph manuscript. Lillie Wells' account of her journey begins with her departure from Epworth, Iowa. She travelled by train to New York via Chicago, Detroit, and Winsor, Canada. Wells gives lengthy descriptions of places she visits in New York including Niagara Falls and New York City. She travels down the Hudson on the steamer Isaac Newton and then departs from New York City for San Francisco aboard the steamer Northern Light. She describes Aspinwall (ColoĢn), Panama, and the train trip across the Isthmus. From Panama she travels on the steamer Sonora to San Francisco, stopping at Acapulco enroute.
